Equipment advice from people who make the ink.

Most equipment reviews are written by people who have never mixed a pigment dispersion, calibrated a balance or watched a press drift out of registration. We formulated water-based inks, polymers and coatings for a living, and we teach the chemistry and physics underneath all of it. Here we test the equipment, explain why it behaves the way it does, and show you what the numbers actually work out to.

Four things we cover

Each section is written by someone who has used the equipment in it. Where we have not, we say so and review on specifications alone.

Printing

DTF and sublimation printers, heat presses, films, adhesive powders and pigment inks. The chemistry of why a transfer releases cleanly or cracks after three washes, and what a print really costs you.

Laboratory

Glassware, balances, hotplates and stirrers, pH meters, spectrometers and safety equipment. What matters for a school lab, a start-up bench or a working QC room, and where the cheap option is genuinely fine.

Materials & Coatings

Chemicals, polymers, resins, adhesives and paints. Specification, compatibility, storage and handling, written by people who formulated this class of product commercially.

Automotive

Workshop tools, diagnostics, detailing chemistry and consumables. The coatings and solvents here are closer to our day job than most people expect.

How we work

We start from the science
Most equipment failures are chemistry or physics failures wearing a mechanical disguise. Knowing why a white underbase goes chalky, why a balance drifts in a draughty room, or why a coating fails to wet a surface is the part of this work we are genuinely qualified for.
We show the arithmetic
A machine that costs less can cost more to run. Our calculators put consumables, labour, power and depreciation in one place so you compare the whole picture rather than the sticker price.
We are clear about what we have tested
Every review states plainly whether we have used the product ourselves. No review is paid for, and no manufacturer sees a review before it is published.
We tell you when not to buy
Some equipment sold online has no parts supply and no service path. We would rather lose a commission than send you to it.
